Esporles, a traditional village in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, just 15 minutes from Palma.
The Serra de Tramuntana is dotted with charming villages and countless scenic spots that will surprise you and steal your heart.
The Esporles valley, home to Sa Fita Backpackers, is located in the southern part of the Serra, between Valldemossa and Banyalbufar. Nestled among mountains, with small houses along the stream—a defining feature of the village—this is the most traditional and authentic Mallorca.
On market day, “es mercat,” the village’s main promenade, “es passeig,” fills with stalls selling flowers, cured meats, crafts, fresh vegetables, and fruit.
Gradually, the town center comes to life, inviting you to start the day with a coffee, a “variat,” or a “llonguet,” traditional Mallorcan treats.
Wandering through the charming streets of the village, the typical Mallorcan stone façades adorned with flowers in windows and doorways immediately catch the eye.
Esporles’ church, with its beautiful Gothic lines, presides over the town.
From this wonderful village, hiking, cycling, and mountain biking enthusiasts have the perfect starting point for a variety of excursions, such as the Camí d’es Correu to Banyalbufar.
You can walk towards Valldemossa via the Coll de sa Basseta, explore Sa Mola of Son Pacas with its remains of charcoal workers’ houses and silos, stroll to the Font de Son Tries, climb the Ermita de Maristel·la, visit the Cor de Jesús, or wander until you find Sa Fita del Ram, the most emblematic mountain of our village, which gives its name to our house in Esporles.
Esporles is known for its abundance of water, an element that has attracted every civilization that has inhabited these lands throughout history. In fact, it was Esporles’ water that first drew its earliest settlers.
The ingenuity of the Islamic population in designing water collection and management systems still endures in the village, as seen in the Font de Son Tries. This is the most important fountain in Esporles and is classified as a heritage site of the highest conservation priority under the Serra de Tramuntana’s Natural Resource Management Plan.
